Fronsac Appellation
Surrounding the town of Libourne stretch the vineyards of Saint Emilion right East, of Pomerol right North and of Fronsac right West. Those neighboring appellations have many common features: merlot grape variety is dominant – it accounts for at least 70% in each wine estate – and the estates are mainly small 10-15 hectares family owned business – despite the growing concentration trend.
The Fronsac appellation is distinguished by the beauty of its landscape it architectural wealth. It benefits several small castles and typical mansions that evidence the age of its wine rooting and testify the wine growing Golden Age which ran from the mid 18th century to to the phylloxera crisis in the late 19th century.
