Ce Clos du Roy tout fringant dans sa limpide robe pourpre a « du nez » note un dégustateur, emballé par l’intensité de ses senteurs de fruits rouges et noirs relevés de d’épices. Franche à l’attaque, puissante et serrée, la bouche est équipée de tanins vigoureux qui lui confèrent beaucoup de relief et un solide potentiel de garde. Le coup de cœur fut mis aux voix. 2025-2032

Le bouquet du Clos du Roy révèle bien son le côté calcaire du terroir au travers de notes crayeuses. Elles sont complétées par des nuances de mûres. Le vin est légèrement crémeux, élégant et parfaitement équilibré. Il profite clairement du côté saillant de son acidité qui lui confère une touche salivante et sapide. Un vin authentique à qui on a évité de donner des chaussures de marche pour courir un 100 mètres ! 2024- 2034

Le nez est fruité, frais et offre de l’élégance ainsi qu’une certaine petite puissance contenue. On y retrouve des notes de mûre pulpeuse/fraîche, de cerise Bigarreau charnue et plus légèrement de framboise pulpeuse/fraîche associées à de petites touches de violette, de lys, à de fines pointes variétales, de moka, d’épices ainsi qu’à une discrète pointe de poivre frais. La bouche est fruitée et offre de la jutosité, de la suavité, une trame minérale, une bonne définition, une petite jutosité, de la gourmandise ainsi que de la finesse. En bouche ce vin exprime des notes de mûre juteuse/pulpeuse, de framboise juteuse/pulpeuse et plus légèrement de cerise Bigarreau associées à une fine touche de prune bleue pulpeuse, à de fines pointes de fève tonka, de tabac blond sucré et à une subtile pointe d’épices douces. Les tannins sont souples et sapides.

The 2021 Clos du Roy is quite fragrant on the nose, lifted by some polished oak, though the fruit feels pure and focused. The palate is medium-bodied with sappy black fruit and tne acidity. A bit compact, but there is energy on the finish. This is a fine Fronsac in the making.

The 2019 Clos du Roy has an intense bouquet of marine-tinged black fruit, though I get the feeling that it’s already beginning to close down. The palate is medium-bodied and concentrated, with firm tannins, plenty of black fruit and impressive structure on the finish. Very fine, but give it a couple of years in bottle.

Elevé 5 mois sur lies en barrique, ce 2019 a tout bon. Au nez se déploient après aération de fins arômes d’agrumes, de fruits exotiques et de buis, accompagnés de nuances briochées. Un bouquet auquel fait un long écho une bouche ample et suave, stimulée jusqu’en finale par une agréable tension citronnée. Une haute expression de l’appellation.

White flowers and grapefruit on the nose. This small-production 50/50 Sauvignon Blanc/ Sémillon comes from only two hectares of white varieties grown at this estate. It has excellent vibrancy on the palate, succulent but with a soft, sweet juiciness to it. There are elements of nectarine, apricot and ripe peaches with some wet stone, mineral touches that come through too. It’s great quality, easy to drink, and has nuance and aromatic interest. Pair with cheese, and white meats. Drink 2021-2024

Limestone austerity comes through pretty strongly on the attack in the form of a slate and crushed stone texture, followed by plenty of freshly cut herbs and fairly sibdued raspberry and blueberry fruit, with touches of richer and more mellow pie crust as it opens up. The 2018 Clos du Roy has a much more floral bouquet compared to its peers, violets and iris infusing the black fruit. The dense palate is medium-bodied with chewy tannins, fine acidity and a licorice-tinged finish. Certainly one of the more backward Fronsac wines, but it deserves cellaring and should develop nicely in bottle.

The 2018 Clos du Roy is a real pleasure to taste. Rich and flamboyant, the 2018 possesses tremendous depth as well as character. Succulent red fruit, blood orange, mint, spice, leather and new oak all mesh together. Readers will find a Fronsac of real substance and power. The 2018 is impressive. I won’t be at all surprised if it ages well.

Deep garnet-purple colored, the 2019 Clos du Roy has quite an oaky/cedary nose to begin, soon giving way to vibrant black cherries, warm plums and ripe blackberries scents with touches of tobacco leaf and new leather. Full- bodied, big, rich and concentrated (15% alcohol), the palate exudes black fruit preserves and spicy accents, framed by firm, ripe, rounded tannins and plenty of freshness, finishing on a minty note.

The tannins are aggressive, yet it has a good mid-palate, impressive purity, and I suspect will come together nicely once bottled. Nevertheless, those tannins will need watching.

The palate is fruity, well-balanced, mineral, racy and offers a juicy/finely acidulous frame. On the palate this wine expresses notes of juicy cassis, juicy blackberry and small notes of juicy small red berries associated with fine hints of flowers (in the background). Tannins are well-built.

Compact and distinguished character on the palate. The wine has precise tannins, with fine grains, in perfect correlation with the structure. The latter gives tension and freshness. A convincing wine, with character and a future. I am curious to follow him in his evolution. Persistent finish. 2023-2036

Plantations and vine repurchases have increased the total area to 50 hectares, resulting in four labels in Fronsac, Bordeaux supérieur and Bordeaux. 2014, with a sumptuous dark and intense colour, reveals a complex and captivating nose: cherry, blackcurrant, undergrowth, spices, mocha… The mouth? Velvet. Soft and silky, full and concentrated, very long, it is based on round and fleshy tannins. 2019-2027. Lamprey in the Bordeaux style

The 2016 Clos du Roy has a tightly wound bouquet with abundant black fruit waiting to unfold once in bottle. The palate is medium-bodied with rounded but firm tannin, engaging blackberry and bilberry fruit mixed with mineral and a very refined and persistent finish that is the best I have encountered from this Fronsac estate. Bon vin! Très bon vin!

Plantations and redemptions of vines brought the whole to 40 ha, originating four labels in Fronsac, Bordeaux superior and Bordeaux.
Implanted on the coasts and clay-limestone plateaus, this vintage reaches today 10 ha. The 2013 gives a beautiful image of the vintage with its deep robe and its complex and subtle nose, harmoniously blending the small black fruit and a well-dosed merrain. When the palate, if its build is not athletic, it offers a character flattering by its finesse, with a round and ample attack, tannins melted and silky, a little firmer in the final. A bottle soon ready. 2018-2021. Tourte with ceps!

Ruby red with garnet hues. A bouquet of good intensity revealing, above all, roasted notes with dark chocolate. I also note a little blackcurrant. In the mouth, the attack is supple and delicious. The body is round, seductive and perfectly balanced. The text could stop here… but one thing strikes me anyway: a granular tannic structure that reveals itself slowly at the end of the mouth. Combined with acidity, it offers a significant potential. However, the fruit is to the absent subscribers but it is revealed a little in feedback. As a result, tasting wine at full speed can have the effect of missing out on such elements. Fortunately I am Swiss and I taste slowly. In fact, I have ten seconds left to tell you that….. Boom… to follow carefully 2022-2034

In 1987, Philippe Hermouet acquired 35 hectares around Meynard’s hill: the Clos du Roy, 4 ha in Saillans, and Roc Meynard, 5 ha in the neighboring town of Villegouge. Plantations and redemptions of vines brought the whole to 40 ha, originally four labels in fronsac, bordeaux superior and bordeaux.
After twenty-five years of profession, Philippe Hermouet is a happy man, who « has fun » and awaits the harvest with impatience, looking for ripe grapes. Here, the Merlot, accompanied by a drop of the two cabernets, produced a wine with a very pleasant nose, on the violet and black cherry, underlined by a light woody vanilla and spicy. On the palate, this 2012 seduces by its freshness and silky tannins, a little firm and lively in the final.

The nose is elegant, « fleshy » and gourmet. It reveals notes of ripe black fruit combined with light notes of chocolate and roasting. The palate is complex, round, distinguished, harmonious, fresh and offers a pretty material. On the palate, there are notes of blackcurrant, strawberry and blueberry associated with a hint of plum, spices (chocolate, vanilla), coffee and an elegant woody note. The tannins are soft. Good length in the mouth.

In 1987, Philippe Hermouet acquired 35 ha around the Meynard mound, grown 4 ha in Saillans, and Roc Meynard, 5 ha in the neighboring town of Villegouge. Plantations and redemption of vines brought the whole to 40 ha, originally four labels in Fronsac, Bordeaux Superior and Bordeaux.
Selection of the best plots of the Clos du Roy, this cuvée raised twelve months in new barrels made, rather than in wood, the beautiful part with ripe fruit, floral accompanied by floral nuances. The palate, in unison, seduces by its volume, its density and its silky tannins. Racy and balanced wine. 2016-2020. Food and wine: Roast beef.

The château is located in the Fronsac region, near the village of villegouge on the right bank of the Dordogne. Lovely light reflective pale straw colour, light intensity and fresh, crisp nose, gently flirting. Good lift, good aromatics, good Bordeaux tipicity from winemaker Philippe Hermouet. Blend is 50% Sauvignon Blanc and 50% Semillon, from young vines planted in 2010, vinifed in stainless steel with four months on the lees before bottling. Drink 2014-2017.

Appealing, promissing fruit on the nose here, this is a good wine, rich, deep layers, good complexity, with flavours that hold on for a good few minutes in the mouth. Winemaker Philippe Hermouet runs this 29 hectares property which is located near to Fronsac on the Right Bank of Bordeaux. The combination of fruit, acidity and tannic hold suggests it could improve over next few years. Drink 2015-2023.

Philippe Hermouet, après vingt-cinq années de viticulture, a récemment acheté le château Roc Saint-Bernard, situé à Saillans, désormais incorporé au Clos du Roy et dont une partie des vignes a été intégrée à ce 2010 largement dominé par le merlot (95%, le cabernet sauvignon en appoint). La robe est d’un superbe grenat profond. Complexe et intense, le nez marie les fruits noirs aux épices douces. La bouche affiche une réelle puissance, beaucoup de richesse et de concentration, portée par des tanins solides, extrait avec doigté. Un vin de garde assurément, que l’on attendra au moins cinq ou six ans.

La cuvée principale du domaine, le Clos du Roy 2009 (40 000 b.), citée pour son nez de fruits rouges et d’épices, ce débouchera plus tôt.

Ingénieur agronome Philippe HERMOUET a repris en 1987 un vignoble familial situé dans le Libournais. Son Bordeaux Supérieur naît aux lisières nord de l’appellation fronsac, d’un assemblage typique de la région, privilégiant le merlot. La robe est aussi profonde que le nez, où la framboise se mêle au cassis et à des notes plus fraiches de groseille. Ce fruité se prolonge dans une bouche vive à l’attaque, puissante, concentrée et longue, construite sur des tanins serrés. Un vin prometteur, à attendre deux voire cinq ans… Le temps que les chênes truffiers plantés en 2010 sur l’exploitation livrent leurs trésors.

Ingénieur agronome de formation Philippe Hermouet a repris cette ancienne propreté familiale en 1987 et en a développé le vignoble, qui est passé de 10 à 37 ha en l’espace d’une vingtaine d’années. Derrière la robe profonde et brillante de son 2007 s’épanouit un élégant bouquet de fruits noirs surmûris aux accents accents torréfiés. Du gras, de la souplesse, des tanins enrobés : la bouche teintée d’une fine fraicheur est déjà harmonieuse. On attendra néanmoins 2 ans que les notes d’élevages se fondent en finale.
